Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past year, it won’t come as a surprise that neckerchiefs are having their moment in the spotlight. These small but mighty accessories add a perfect pop of colour to any ensemble, and with such a vast array of colours and patterns available and affordable, building a collection feels happily inevitable. From rolled silk styles, to scout-level chic triangle scarves, neckerchiefs have firmly entered the chat this winter.

Not Their First Rodeo

The neckerchief has long been seen as a practical item, worn by ranchers or in Westerns by gun-toting stars of the silver screen. But forget John Wayne, these wonderfully versatile accessories stand alone, and have chosen their moment to turn from ‘cowboycore’ to chic and covetable.

Neckerchiefs have the rare ability to turn any outfit into a fashion statement, bringing a hint of personality to even the most earthy attire. If bulky winter dressing has you retreating back into the house, these little gems are the perfect antidote: adorning your neck and complimenting your outfit without the bother of thick winter scarves.

Neckwear Without a Gender

The rise of the neckerchief has been on the lips of the top fashion houses for some time. Back in 2024, the Financial Times did a deep dive into how ‘stylish men are adding personality to plain outfits with a square scarf’, reporting on Stefano Pilati, the creative director at Yves Saint Laurent, and his strong positive feelings toward the neckerchief. Pilati was reported to have commented that ‘A neckerchief remains the non-binary accessory par excellence’, and we’re inclined to agree.

Whilst the men’s neckerchief (à laDaniel Craig in Knives Out) might be front of mind, women everywhere are upgrading their outfits with a pop of pattern and style. Indeed, even Vogue has celebrated this fashion fancy as a ‘low cost styling hack’ and ‘the lifeblood’ of any wardrobe.
